You may have noticed an increase in the use of the tag #MentalHealthMatters lately. Partly this is because we are in a prolonged mental health crisis brought on (in part) by COVID. But that isn't the only reason.
🎉 Also, May is Mental Health Awareness Month! 🎉
This is a time to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and to encourage others to prioritize their mental wellbeing. Health and wellness MUST include mental health, as mental and physical health are intertwined.
One thing that has been particularly helpful for me is talking about my struggles. (Yes, therapists are human too and sometimes we struggle.) It can be scary to open up about something so personal, but I've found that it's also incredibly freeing. When we talk openly about our struggles, we break down the stigma surrounding mental health and create a community of support and understanding.
Another thing that has been helpful for me is practicing mindfulness meditation. This means taking a few minutes each day to simply be present in the moment and focus on my breath. It helps me feel more grounded and centered, even when life gets chaotic.
Of course, what works for me might not work for you. But the important thing is that we all prioritize our mental health in whatever way feels right for us. Everyone's journey with mental health and healing is unique.
What are you doing this May to support your mental health?
