Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy Consultation Groups

The Value of Ongoing Consultation

Training in ketamine assisted therapy is the perfect place to start. However the complexities of the work, once you begin to engage, often require more than is offered in training as questions begin to pop up.

Ongoing consultation helped me over the years become a much better KAP therapist and I am thrilled to now be able to offer consultation groups with our team of clinicians at Bay Area mental health.

Here is what we have our members have to say about what they have gained from attending the group:

"I joined BAMH's KAP case consultation group about a year ago. This has been a thoughtfully curated space that feels meaningful and safe. KAP invokes many layers of complexity for both the patient and the clinician. This group has allowed me to process and explore many different dynamics and aspects of non-ordinary state of consciousness work. I find it to be a valuable professional asset and I am grateful for the opportunity to participate and connect here."

KAP Consultation at BAMH

We have two options for KAP consultation groups. Our first Friday consultation group is currently full but we have space in a new group that we are offering which will meet on the third Friday of the month. This new group is shorter in duration, at just one hour long, and is intended to increase access by reducing the cost. Because of the shorter timeframe we will be limiting the second group to only six members to ensure that everyone has plenty of space to share cases and questions.

Our consultation groups include a mix of both therapists and medical providers who offer a KAP. We do request that anyone applying for a group has already completed a didactic training.

KAP Consultation Group 1

KAP Consultation Group 2

Our Training and Expertise and What We Can Offer You

Bay Area Mental Health, a multidisciplinary group practice, was founded in 2015 in California and our core focus has always been on treating trauma and complex cases. We have grown over the years and now have a diverse group of providers (therapists, psychologists, MDs and NPs) in the practice. As part of our mission to continually offer new ways of working with complex cases, we began offering KAP in 2020 and currently 7 of our clinicians offer KAP services using lozenges or IM.

We are psychotherapeutically oriented and welcome both therapists and medical providers. The consultation meetings meet virtually on Fridays. We request a 6 month commitment for the sake of continuity and depth of discussions. If cost is a barrier we are open to offering a reduced fee. We do ask that applicants have already completed some didactic training in KAP before applying to join the consultation group.

KAP Consultation Groups Questions

What if I am just starting out with KAP?

We welcome clinicians at any stage of their training with Academy assisted psychotherapy. We do ask that clinicians have already engaged in a KAP training program and have you started seeing KAP clients or are getting ready to offer that work and in your future. We're happy to offer recommendations to prospected and high-quality training programs if you'd like.

Do you welcome both therapists and medical providers?

Yes, absolutely! In fact our initial and longest running KP group has a nice mix of both therapists and medical providers (NPs and MDs). We find that there is a lot of learning opportunity when we come together from different specialties and lenses.

Can I just join the group on weeks that I'm available?

In our KAP consultation groups we strive to create deep and trusting relationships with each other so that we can deeply explore challenging cases as well as transference and countertransference that is common when working with ketamine. Because of this, we can't support a drop in participation. We asked for an initial commitment of six months though you can pay monthly and we don't charge upfront for the full six months.
