Linnea Butler and Bay Area Mental Health
About Linnea
Linnea Butler is a licensed marriage and family therapist and founded Bay Area Mental Health in 2014 with a vision of bringing together outstanding and passionate therapists to help people who have been through an extreme experience such as childhood trauma leading to PTSD and Complex PTSD, or debilitating depression or anxiety, to calm their intense emotions and build a life worth living well.

The mission of Bay Area Mental Health is to provide help to people who have not been helped by traditional one-on-one talk therapy. The world is changing and we need new therapy models, including Collaborative Care and Cutting Edge approaches. We take on tough problems and are dedicated to facilitating change. We provide high-end services to help you heal your deepest pain.

Once upon a time, Linnea was a molecular biologist and geneticist working in Big Pharma and later a marketing executive in biotech. She found the research and technology lifestyle unfulfilling, and felt disconnected from what mattered most – people. That led her on a long and winding path to becoming a psychotherapist and business owner, where she combined her training in data-driven critical thinking, her expertise in trauma therapy, and her passion for innovation to create a new kind of therapy practice.

"For Linnea Butler, founder of Bay Area Mental Health, her background as a research scientist led her to question the potential of ketamine, but when faced with depression and burnout, her entry into the psychedelic world led her to a life-changing recovery."
"Butler notes that ketamine first found use in mental health for treatment-resistant depression (TRD) using IV delivery in an inpatient setting for the most severe cases of suicidal ideation.
“Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) is done with sublingual or intramuscular (IM) ketamine,” Butler said. The therapy uses the dissociative state to facilitate delving into “extremely painful issues that clients can’t tolerate without the ketamine,” she added. “It gives them an ‘emotional skin’ of sorts.”"

The rates of depression, anxiety, PTSD and suicidality is continuing to climb. BAMH founder Linnea Butler states, “we have a mental health epidemic in the United States. More urgently than ever, we need new approaches to complex mental health problems that are not treated by talk therapy alone. Ketamine is safe, legal, and accessible and shows many of the same benefits as the more traditional, but largely inaccessible, psychedelic medicines. We have seen as much as a 70% reduction in symptoms over a 6 week course of ketamine assisted psychotherapy treatment and in one case we witnessed a near complete remission of trauma, depression and anxiety.”
