Many people struggle with the feeling that they aren’t “good enough”. Not smart enough, not attractive enough, not successful enough and so on… This is called Imposter Syndrome. Imposter Syndrome is a state of chronically feeling unworthy, regardless of your achievements or accolades you receive. When people give you compliments, you shrug it off and wonder when you will be discovered as a “fraud”. It’s a terrible feeling, but it’s very common. If this sounds familiar to you, the first step is to begin to practice self compassion. Notice the negative judgements as they come up in your mind and remind yourself that you are doing the best that you can. The next step is to start to track down the origin of these thoughts. Typically they start with messages we receive in childhood, when we get the message that we need to achieve to earn love.
